080510 Baby : "Mini Emma" (still no name) is 6 days old now. Her teeth are starting to come in and she started eating her first blades of grass today. She is also busy learning to be lead on a lead rope, lift her hooves when asked, respect people space, and running after the vehicles on the road.

080504 Baby : May 4, 2008 - Happy Birthday Baby Filly! Quite a bit of planning went into bringing another wonderful Cleveland Bay into the world. The sire of this filly is the pure bred Cleveland Bay Stainmore Wolfhound of Ridgemore Farm (www.ridgemore.net) and the dam is our Cleveland Bay Sporthorse Imaten (Emma). The baby was conceived by artificial insemination and then the embryo was transferred into a surrogate mare (the paint horse Flashy in these photos). We knew Flashy was close but we thought we had a few more days. We happened upon our new little bundle of joy when feeding our horses this Sunday morning. Both Flashy and filly are doing just fine. Although we humans missed the actual birth you can see from the photos we weren’t that far behind the big event. We're working on a name for our baby and I'm sure Michelle will entertain suggestions. Speaking of suggestions, I have one... Hit the Slideshow button at the upper right corner of this page, sit back, and enjoy photos of the world’s newest Cleveland Bay sport horse.

080412 BREC : Have you heard of the Extreme Cowboy Races? Well BREC held a River Road Roun-Up which is something very similar. We packed up Emily and Cue (AKA Bar-Ba-Q) and Michelle and Emma (AKA I'm-A-10) and made the short trip over. What a blast! Everyone was extremely nice, although we stuck out like sore thumbs in our full Eventing gear. We intended only to take pictures of our folks, but were asked to take pictures of everyone... so here they are. Stay tuned for the next event. Thanks BREC and everyone involved for a really fun time!

The weather was a bit on the nippy side but it was a really nice day for a horse show. Thanks to everyone at ASH for a wonderful show!

080301 LSUSVM : For the past several years RLEC has been asked to participate in the Parade of Breeds portion of the LSU Vet School's Open House. Michelle and Emma turned out in Sidesaddle atire, and Jessica and Kodak Moment did some bareback jumping. This exhibition was a small part of a much larger program. Way to go LSU for putting on a class act. We had a great time and the weather was perfect!

080126 BREC : This is BREC's first Horse Trials and first run on their new cross country course. We attempted to take pictures of the Dressage and Show Jumping portion of this show, however , due to the week's worth of rain both venues were forced indoors. Lighting was not photo-friendly, and most horses are not really receptive bright flashes, so we sat out those portions of the show. We did however catch some of the action from cross country. We didn't get everyone but we got quite a few shots. Hope you enjoy. -- Rick

070908 Lagniappe : This weekend was all about Mary Kate and Cue at the September Hunter Jumper Show at Lagniappe Equestrian Center. This was only the second HJ show Mary Kate has gone to.. but she faired very well with 2 fourth places over fences and a sixth on the flat. We wish more RLEC people could have gone as the day was nice and the show was really laid back, but with school starting and the LSU vs. Virginia Tech game up everyone was very busy.

070901 BREC Schooling : Another schooling day out at BREC's Cross Country Course... although this time there was a little bit of a challenge. Jessica is recovering from a broken finger, Michelle had a bad finger sprain just yesterday, and Elizabeth fell during the schooling and broke her wrist.

Despite feeling like we were opening an ambulatory ward everyone enjoyed the outing. Rick brought the BBQ Grill along for the ride and treated everyone to some good grilled burgers with all the trimmings.

070812 Hunters Bluff : Yeah we're brave. 100+ degree heat, no sweat... actually on second thought there was a lot of sweat, but regardless of what mother nature had in store for the weekend we were determined to make the Hunter's Bluff Schooling Dressage show and we did just that.

Emily and her mom brought their horse Mandy, and we packed up our lesson horse Cue for Mary Kate and Meg to ride. The pictures tell the rest of the story... all blues and reds. Way to go girls!

070720 BryerFest : Breyer Animal Creations has for the last 18 years hosted BreyerFest at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington Kentucky. This montage of events is an equestrian extravaganza setting for Breyer model collectors to buy, sell, trade, and in some cases afford the opportunity to view the real live star of their favorite collectable. Such was the case this year for Cleveland Bay lovers. Tregoyd Journeyman (Joe) a Cleveland Bay Stallion owned by Anna and Daniel Cohen of Bay Haven Farm, LLC and OldDominion Stud in Roundhill VA was the center of attention in 2006 as his model was unveiled at BreyerFest. Several Cleveland Bay owners rallied to support Joe and traveled to Kentucky for a Cleveland Bay Exhibition. That was last year, however most of us had so much fun, and Breyer wanted the group back for the 07 event so we made the trek.

Although it was a 14 hour drive from Baton Rouge, LA Michelle and I only needed an excuse to visit the horse capital of the world and boy was it worth the trip. Each day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we helped promote Cleveland Bays before the crowd in the stadium during the exhibition, and as we walked around the park and let people get up close and touch our wonderful animals.

We were joined by several other Cleveland Bay owners with both pure and part bred horses. We made lots of new friends and had a chance to do what we love most.. share a piece of our love for horses with others.

Donna McDowell brought Gracie. Dr. Tracie Traver and Tally Mock brought Buffalo Bill Cody and Bensington Bluestone from Ridgemor Farm. Laurel Watson brought Belladonna Leo from Divine Equine Stables and Michelle and I brought Imaten (Emma) from right here at Right Lead Equestrian Center.

070707 GB Hunter Jumper : Looking for a way to brush up on our jumping skills we packed up Margo and Romeo, Jessica and Lightning, and Mary Kate and Cue and headed over to Serenity Farms for the GB Hunter Jumper Show. We would have brought Emma, however she is dealing both with a recently removed abscess and a puncture wound over her left eye.

The weather was not cooperative as rain passed through several times, but the girls had a good time and placed respectably (when they remembered their course).

070616 BREC Schooling : Several years back Michelle and Gretchen Morgan started an effort to develop a Cross Country Course at BREC's Farr Horse Park. Working with Captain Mark Philips on the design and with a grant from the state things were set in motion. The course was completed about a year ago, long after both Gretchen and Michelle left BREC... but the fruit of their planning is finally here.

We took every able bodied horse and most of our riders out to the course for schooling today, those who didn't jump took advantage of the wide open spaces and pretty calm temperatures for a leisurely trail ride. The course still has some minor work to be done... but as you can see from the pictures the jumps and layout are very well designed and executed.

070325 Watershed Schooling : Well spring has officially sprung and what a better way to enjoy a beautiful Sunday than out on a cross country course with a bunch of your crazy friends. Thanks to SEDA and Elizabeth Cummings Right Lead got that chance on March 25th out at Watershed. We grabbed a bunch of girls, loaded up the horses, and had an absolute ball. Don't believe me... just take a look at Cheryl's husband Johnny. If that's not team spirit I don't know what is (you'll know him when you see him).
